Just when you think you’ve seen it all in this country, a new plot twist shows up and the story stretches on. Last week was filled with so much drama, we were almost afraid it wouldn’t end; from outrageous bride price lists to interesting weddings, to crazy ousting and dethronements, to DNA troubles, it was a lot! In this article, I’ll be highlighting some of these popular stories on Nigerian social media in case you missed it, feel free to catch up.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Re-instated as the Only Emir of Kano

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the current Emir of Kano

Do you guys remember how the previous emir of Kano, SLS was dethroned because he was very “disrespectful and undeserving” of the throne back in 2020?

Well, in a strange turn of events this week, SLS has been reinstated as the only Emir of Kano while all other monarchs have been dethroned and evicted with a notice of only 48 hours. Rumour has it that they weren’t allowed to pick anything, not even their boxers.

Nigerian National Anthem Swap

Nigerian Lawmakers

We might just have another Guinness World Record award on our hands as our lawmakers have decided changing our national anthem is the next best course of action that would advance our cause as a people and they’re doing it so swiftly.

How else do we explain this fast-moving train tagged “reverting to the old national anthem,” I’m struggling to understand its economic importance but as always, we’ll be fine.

DNA Drama

Nigerian football player, Kayode Olanrewaju

In a heartbreaking DNA reveal, a Nigerian football player, Kayode Olanrewaju discovers his 3 children are not his, biologically. His baby mama sure has a lot of explaining to do and for their sake, I sincerely hope it’s a prank because “Olopa will pack everybody!”

The woman has also responded with threats of a lawsuit if he doesn’t reverse his claims within 24 hours.

Marital Empowerment Of Orphaned Girls In Niger State

Marriage of orphaned girls in Niger State

Still remember the marital empowerment in Niger state gist I told you about last week, this week, the “young ladies” have been married off in separate ceremonies. Since the outcry was about the mass weddings, the powers that be have listened to the outcry of the people and quietly settled the ladies’ family with empowerment items like ‘bed and sewing machine.” Happy married life!

First Lady On Decent Dressing

Nigerian First lady

Nigerians expressed zero chill for the First Lady’s motherly advice for the “young children.” Hammering on decency as a beauty standard.

Omoo….they went on social media to fish out near-nude pictures of the first lady’s daughter and told her to stop throwing stones since she lives in a glass house.

Paul Okoye Ties the Knot with his Heartthrob

Rudeboy hitches his girlfriend in traditional marriage

Have I mentioned that Rudeboy also had his traditional marriage with his girlfriend last week and we couldn’t help noticing the “awkwardness” of the situation. Maybe we’re just imagining things. All the best to the new couple.

“Tap Swap” Frenzy

After all the shege we went through in the hands of MMM and its closely related siblings, we should be immune to ponzi schemes but Nigerians are quick to forget their pain and now it’s “tap swapping,” everybody is trying to tap away poverty, I sincerely hope it doesn’t end in premium tears.

With that, I have come to the conclusion of this week’s chronicles of Nigerian social media. I hope you enjoyed reading it? I’ll be back with more gist and updates on interesting stories next week. See ya!
