The Most Interesting Stories On Nigerian Social Media This Week (June 7- 15, 2024)

This week was quite eventful. One drama on the heel of another, we barely had enough time to take it all in;  just when we were complaining about the new national anthem, hike in fuel prices, electricity tariff, cost of food and medication, we suddenly found out our Nigerian passport is stronger than a Canadian passport and our president did a thing (pun intended)! NLC vs Nigerian Workers

The Labour union crushed the hopes of many Nigerian workers for a full blown protest as people expected the rumoured strike to commence on Tuesday but they had other plans that did not involve carrying placards and shouting aluta continua. Democracy day Drama

Our democracy day celebration was full of drama. A lot of interesting activities happened; from the unveiling of the award winning painting, to the amazing bikers parade where one of the machines had to be pushed off the parade ground because its fuel got exhausted, to the heartstopping moment when our president decided he needed to greet Nigerians the way his culture demands and he gave a grand “dobale.”

Reports of cholera outbreak have been making the rounds in Lagos! With the number of cases and death toll on the rise, we all need to be mindful of our environment and take proper hygiene more seriously. 

Portable Baeby 

Portable Baeby was seen chilling abroad with 001 and things seemed to be looking up until they unfollowed each other and started throwing shades on social media. 

Portable has been ranting non-stop and calling everyone out from Zlatan to Davido. I hope this is not about to be another train of Nigerian celebrity wars on social media..

Foreign Businesses Closing Shop in Nigeria 

The list of foreign investments/businesses that have had to close shop and leave the country in recent times keeps increasing. Diageo, the owners of Guinness Nigeria, have sold off 58.02% of its stake to Tolaram. They claim they’re not leaving us but…which way Naija! 

VO gets the brunt again

Nigerians will test you! It’s the way they’ve been dragging our golden player – VO, like gen for me. 

Our Super Eagles lost the qualifier game for the world cup to Benin Republic and the internet has had no peace ever since. Man simply missed the last two matches due to ankle injuries and now he has to take the fall without clearing his name? Let Osimhen breathe guys!
