It’s been a minute guys and if like me you’ve not really had time to be on social media, then you’ve missed out on a lot of interesting stuff. I spent some time catching up over the weekend and I’ve got to tell you a lot has happened!

From celebrity weddings to birthday celebrations, baby showers, social media draggings, scandals to setting new GW records. Sit tight guys while l share some of the trendy gist from these past weeks.

Celebrity Weddings And The Following Drama

Davido and Chioma in their traditional wedding attire, a social media trend

It’s no news that the most anticipated celebrity wedding, CHIVIDO’24, happened in Lagos not too long ago and as you can imagine, they shut down Lagos! The occasion was star studded and glamorous (as expected). But what surprised me the most was how grown up adults concluded that the type of invite you got for the wedding was an asset for which bragging rights on social media were mandatory. It was quite appalling!

Picture showing Sharon Ooja and her husband in their traditional wedding attire, causing quite a stir on social media

While your fave was shutting down Lagos, my fave was shutting down ABJ with her Odogwu Silencer. Sharon Ooja, a Nigerian actress, got married to her LOML and it was one for the records. Never mind that a lot of naysayers decided it was a good time for her to get dragged because she had married a two-time divorcee….What do people really want?

Dangote vs NNPC and FG Policies

Picture showing Dangote at his refinery, trending on social media

In a series of gbas gbos between the NNPC and Dangote, the truth seems to be finding its way to limelight as news is reaching the general public that the already commissioned Dangote refinery is nowhere near 100% completion.

In the wake of this news, Alhaji Aliko Dangote shares multiple challenges faced in establishing the refinery as well as challenges inhibiting the completion of the refinery as planned. In the midst of the heat, Dangote’s sarcasm hit the street as he offered to sell his refinery to NNPC but I am not sure they cannot afford it even if they wanted to.

Minimum Wage Increase

Our commando, BAT, has renewed our hope with a 100%+ increase in the minimum wage. Now the poor civil servants can finally breathe again.

Let’s not talk about the current inflation rate, increased taxes and how this would affect the economy. IWFMF…if you know, you know.

GWR Winning Streak

Picture showing GWR logo on a white background

Following the epic wins of Hilda and Tunde, the GWR winning streak seems to have nested in Nigeria, as we have witnessed a couple of Nigerians go all out and outdo themselves by breaking several existing GWRs and setting new ones. Here are the ones from last week:

Fola David – The Medical Artist

Picture showing Fola David, a medical doctor and artist.

Nothing speaks more to the diversity of a Nigerian than a Medical Doctor who also enjoys art as a side hobby and has boldly shared his love for the arts by making the largest single painting by a human spanning about 1,000 square meters displaying the diversity of the Nigerian culture and is now awaiting the verdict of the GWR team. He was able to achieve this feat in 5 days.

Will he be abandoning Medicine to pursue Arts? I don’t know but congratulations are in order.

A Male Twerker

Picture showing a Nigerian man named Babajide Isreal Adebanjo, as the GWR holder for the longest twerking duration.

Here’s another Nigerian man who proved to us that there are things a woman can do, that a man can do easily and get awarded for.

The young man, Babajide Isreal Adebanjo, displayed grit as he twerked endlessly for over 3 hours and has now bagged the GWR for the longest twerking duration. Ladies, this is an outright challenge! Who’s defending the clan?

The 19-year-old Prodigy

Tolulope Ekundayo, a 19-year-old Nigerian graduate who got dragged on social media

A 19-year-old Nigerian boy named Tolulope Ekundayo, has just bagged a B. Sc degree finishing with a CGPA of 5.0 from the Adeleke University and Nigerians still found a way to drag him on social media!

I have a lot of questions but dragging is not the way. So, congratulations and I hope you get the MSc scholarship you’re gunning for. All the best!

Gwo gwo gwo Dance Challenge

Nigerian veteran singer, Mike Ejeagha, trending on social media

The Gwo gwo gwo crooner, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, is enjoying the attention and benevolence of young people due to a viral Tiktok challenge by popular comedian, Brainjotter.

The Gwo gwo gwo song was released over 40 years ago and is back in the limelight because of the ongoing dance challenge on social media.

Trust Nigerians to make an issue out of any situation, the comedian has come under intense heat due to his benevolent acts towards the veteran.

However, his act of benevolence has stirred more well meaning Nigerians to follow in his steps, showering the singer with more gifts and pleasant surprises.
