5 Movies to Look Out For in August 2024

This list of movies coming out in August 2024 has varying options to include in your TBW list. There will be a remake, a franchise installment, a documentary. Look out for a movie adaptation of a video game, including a suspense-filled plot.

This month’s list features well-known directors, Fede Álvarez and M. Night Shyamalan. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. 

If you loved the Alien and Aliens franchise, then watch out for Alien: Romulus which will be hitting theaters next month. 

There is also a very inspiring documentary on Father-Daughter relationships. What is so touching about this documentary? The Crow

This remake, done 20 years after the original movie, features Eric Draven (Bill Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs). They are a couple deeply in love, who are tragically murdered by individuals from Shelly’s troubled past. Eric is offered a second chance at life but at a great personal cost. 

He returns to the world of the living, driven by a fierce determination to avenge their murders and protect Shelly’s memory; even if it means navigating the dangerous boundaries between life and death. The Crow is set to be theatrically released on August 23, 2024. Directed by Rupert Sanders.

Alien: Romulus

“Alien: Romulus” is the latest installment in the iconic Alien franchise. It is the seventh film in the series and the ninth overall to feature the deadly xenomorphs. Directed by Fede Álvarez, this highly anticipated movie takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1979 classic. Alien: Romulus serves as a thrilling bridge between the first two films.

But with unexpected twists and turns, nothing is certain until the very end. Trap is set to hit theaters on August 9. 

Borderlands 

This is one of the most anticipated movies in August 2024. It is based on the best-selling video game, where a group of unlikely heroes must work together to save a powerful girl from danger. Lilith, a skilled bounty hunter, returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of a powerful leader. 

She joins forces with a team of misfits, including a mercenary, a young explosives expert, a strong protector, a quirky scientist, and a talking robot. Together, they must fight against aliens and bandits to uncover a hidden secret on Pandora. 

Along the way, they learn to rely on each other and become a family. The fate of the universe depends on their success. Borderlands will be showing in theaters on August 9.

Daughters

In a heartwarming and uplifting documentary, four young girls are getting ready for a special night with their fathers, who are incarcerated at a Washington, D.C. correctional facility. Despite the challenges of their circumstances, these girls are beaming with excitement as they prepare for the Daddy Daughter Dance, a unique event made possible by an innovative fatherhood program.

The Daddy-Daughter Dance is a celebration of love, family, and connection. Despite the physical barriers that separate them, these fathers and daughters are determined to make the most of their time together. As they dance, laugh, and cherish every moment, they prove that even in the toughest of circumstances, love can conquer all. This documentary is set to be released on August 14. Directed by Angela Patton.
