In today’s fast-paced world, staying productive is crucial for achieving success. However, with the situation of the country (everybody in Nigeria is struggling to survive), staying productive can be a struggle. With the commute struggles, daily stress, and numerous tasks competing for our attention, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose focus.
Fortunately, incorporating simple productivity hacks into your daily routine can significantly enhance your efficiency.
Here’s how.
Set Clear Goals
Start your day by setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals. Break down large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Instead of “I want to be more productive,” set a goal like “I will complete 3 tasks within the next 2 hours.”
Prioritize Tasks
Use the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks into:
1. Urgent & important (Do First)
2. Important but not urgent (Schedule)
3. Urgent but not important (Delegate)
4. Not urgent or important (Eliminate)
Use the Pomodoro Technique
Work in focused 25-minute increments, followed by a 5-minute break. You can use a Pomodoro timer app or website to help you stay on track.

Eliminate Distractions
Turn off notifications, log out of social media, and find a quiet workspace. If you work from home, a co-working soace like Cafe One might be your best bet.

Take Breaks
Take short breaks so you can recharge and maintain your productivity. I have found that taking a short walk (to the restroom or outside and back) does wonders for me. Depending on your location, you can choose to take a 10-15 minute walk outside or stretch.
Stay Organized
To help you stay organized, you can use productivity tools like:
1. Trello (visual boards)
2. Asana (task management)
3. Todoist (task lists)
Learn to Say No
Set boundaries and prioritize your tasks. Learn to say no to unnecessary requests or extra work that’ll affect the completion of your current workload. You can tactfully say: “I appreciate the request, but I need to focus on my current tasks.”
Practice Time Blocking
Time blocking is a time management technique where you set aside certain chunks of time to focus on a given task or activity. For example, “I will work on a first draft of my blog post from 9am to 11am tomorrow.” So use this approach to schedule tasks in fixed time slots. Some time management tools you can use for this are: Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, etc.

Batch Similar Tasks
Group similar tasks together, such as:
1. Checking email
2. Social media management
3. Data entry
Stay Hydrated and Energized
Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious snacks. This will help keep you energized and refreshed. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks because they’ll give you a sugar high or caffeine rush at first but after a while, there’s a crash that can leave you exhausted and lethargic. So water and fruits/nuts are your best friends here.
Review and Adjust
Regularly evaluate your productivity systems and adjust as needed. Be sure to schedule weekly or monthly review sessions. That way, you can easily identify what works and ditch what doesn’t.
Implementing these 10 productivity hacks will help you stay focused, efficient, and achieve your goals. Remember to review and adjust your systems regularly.
