Wizkid FC vs 30BG

Every afrobeats lover knows about the notorious Wizkid FC vs 30BG banter. It’s a war of sounds, styles, and vibes, and this year? The stakes are even higher.

Wizkid has been steadily teasing us with snippets of music that make you want to whine your waist and rethink your life choices. Meanwhile, Davido tried to give us something with his new drop “Awuke“, but let’s be honest… it’s not exactly the jolly banger we’re all waiting for.

But let’s be real, the competition this time around is looking a little lopsided. Why? Because Wizkid is coming through with something major, and we already know that Machala no dey ever disappoint.

Machala Magic: ‘Kese (Dance)’ Sets the Stage

First, let’s talk about Wizkid’s recent release: “Kese (Dance)”. As a lead single ahead of his highly anticipated album Morayo (dropping on November 22, 2024), Wizkid has already set the tone for what’s going to be a legendary December — and 2025, for that matter. The track dropped like a bomb, and the response has been nothing short of fire.

In fact, “Kese (Dance)” has already achieved a major milestone: it became the song with the highest opening day streams on Spotify Nigeria, racking up an impressive 1.5 million streams on its release day. If that’s not a sign of greatness, I don’t know what is. The song has instantly taken over airwaves, playlists, and social media feeds, sending fans (including yours truly) into a frenzy. The Afrobeat legend has once again shown that his music is the pulse of Nigerian pop culture, and with Morayo just around the corner, we know we’re about to eat really good this December.

Over the last few weeks, Machala has been teasing us with snippets of some serious heat. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve caught a few sneak peeks on X, Instagram, or TikTok – those fire beats paired with his unmistakable voice. You can practically hear the ‘Detty December’ in every note.

The infectious energy of “Kese (Dance)” is preparing us for the full Morayo experience, which promises to bring the heat for months to come. It’s clear that Wizkid isn’t just dropping music, he’s creating moments.

Trust me, when the full tracks drop, you won’t even remember what else was released this month. The energy is already radiating from those snippets. We can almost feel the club, the parties, and the holiday dinners from here.

Davido’s “Awuke”: A “Detty” Disappointment Maybe?

Wizkid FC vs 30BG

Now, let’s talk about Awuke. Davido fans, hold your horses because I’m coming in hot.

Now, let’s shift gears and talk about Davido. As much as we love the 30BG gang, I have to be honest here. While Wizkid is setting the bar high with “Kese (Dance)”, Davido’s “Awuke” featuring YG Marley, didn’t exactly hit the mark for me. It’s cute, it’s catchy, but it’s not exactly the game-changer that gets you hyped for Detty December. Also, did anyone else struggle to hear what YG Marley was saying in his verse? No? Just me? Okay o.

The thing is, ‘Awuke‘ may have its moments, but it doesn’t have that… pizzazz that leaves you replaying it over and over. The beat is there, but the energy is a bit too low-key for what we need to ignite the December vibe. And, when you’re up against Wizkid’s undeniable dominance in the Afrobeat scene, let’s face it, Wizkid FC vs 30BG feels a little one-sided this time around.

Don’t get me wrong, Davido is still the king of the 30BG empire, and most of his songs are undisputed classics. But for this December, I’m just not convinced that “Awuke” is the song that’s going to take over the festive season the way “Kese (Dance)” already has. We all know Davido has the potential to drop a hit — but right now, “Awuke” feels more like a side dish when we’re all expecting the main course.

Honestly, it feels like the kind of song you play when you’re chilling at a gathering, but not the one you’ll shout about when you’re calling your friends to get ready for a crazy night out.
