It’s cute, it’s catchy, but it’s not exactly the game-changer that gets you hyped for Detty December. Also, did anyone else struggle to hear what YG Marley was saying in his verse? No? Just me? Okay o.
The thing is, ‘Awuke‘ may have its moments, but it doesn’t have that… pizzazz that leaves you replaying it over and over. The beat is there, but the energy is a bit too low-key for what we need to ignite the December vibe. And, when you’re up against Wizkid’s undeniable dominance in the Afrobeat scene, let’s face it, Wizkid FC vs 30BG feels a little one-sided this time around.
Don’t get me wrong, Davido is still the king of the 30BG empire, and most of his songs are undisputed classics. But for this December, I’m just not convinced that “Awuke” is the song that’s going to take over the festive season the way “Kese (Dance)” already has.
