Lagos events are not for the faint-hearted. You don’t just “show up” and expect vibes to carry you. Oh no. You need to come prepared like you’re going to battle; and the battlefield is fish pepper soup breath, dead phones, and a POS that will disgrace you publicly.

Here’s your official, tried-and-tested Lagos Events Starter Pack for surviving (and slaying) any event… from VI rooftops to mainland lounges:

1. Power Bank

If your phone dies at an event, did you even go?

You need a fully charged power bank, preferably one that can jumpstart a danfo bus if needed. Because between posting Instagram stories, pretending to be busy texting when you’re feeling awkward, and locating your Uber driver, your battery will betray you (especially if you use an iPhone). Lagos events wait for no dead phone.

2. Perfume or Body Spray

Lagos is always hot. Events are crowded and even with ACs blasting, someone’s uncle’s armpit will brush you.

You need to smell good at all times. Carry a small bottle of perfume or body spray because you never know when you’ll need a mid-event freshen up. If you think “but I already showered before coming,” just know that by 7 PM, life would have happened to you.

PS: An easy-to-carry deodorant or small bottle of perfume oil is always a life-saver. But go easy on it, you don’t want to suffocate people with an overbearing oud. Too much of everything is still bad, abeg.

3. Chewing Gum or Mint

Please, I’m begging you in the name of Father Abraham, carry gum.

That small chop with extra onions you inhaled? That pepper soup breath you collected? Fix it. Lagos events are full of networking moments and random conversations. The least you can do is not knock people out with dragon breath. Don’t let them drag you online like Arya Star.

4. ATM Card With Money in It

Hope and ₦3,500 in your account can open doors.

Never believe an event is truly “free.” Drinks, after-party food, emergency bolt rides… anything can happen. And when it does, that POS will disgrace you with a “Transaction Declined” if you came empty-handed. At least have something small sha.

5. Sunglasses

If you show up late after a hectic week (or an all-nighter of Netflix and vibes), sunglasses will cover a multitude of sins. Bonus: they double as a confidence booster for looking cooler than you feel.

Even for indoor Lagos events? Yes. Mind your business and wear them anyway. It’s called “fashion.”

6. Bottle of Water

Between the talking, dancing, and posing for pictures you’ll delete later, dehydration is real.

Events will give you drinks, small chops, and vibes, but will they give you water? No. Lagos is hot, life is hard. Stay hydrated.

7. Confidence

Confidence is key, my people.

Smile even if you’re lost. Nod like you understand the art exhibition even if you think “impressionism” is a type of food. Laugh loudly even if the jokes are dead. Lagos events reward audacity.

Going for Lagos events is a full-time commitment. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about surviving, thriving, and leaving with your dignity (and phone) intact.

Pack your starter kit, wear your best smile (and shades), and step into the chaos like you own it.

Because honestly? In Lagos, the real event is YOU.
