Once upon a time in Nigeria, event planning was such a herculean task.

People had to travel for miles or write letters that might arrive after the event just to notify their loved ones of their celebration intent and observe a long list of protocols because they want to throw a party.

It was also a very delicate ordeal that had the capacity to turn family members into bitter enemies if not handled properly.

But today? In more ways than we can count, technology has turned event organization in Nigeria into something more fancy and seamless.

Listed in this article are a few of those, let’s dive in

WhatsApp Groups Have Replaced Family Meetings

Back in the day, when families had weddings to plan, they used to gather under a mango tree to argue about aso ebi colour.

Now? One overzealous cousin has opened “Adeyemi Wedding Official WhatsApp Group” with 57 unread messages before breakfast.

In that group, you’ll see everything from aunties debating wine red vs burgundy like it’s politics to vendors dropping links nobody clicks to someone shouting in voicenote: “Please, let us not disgrace the family o.”

Technology might have saved transport fare but it’s taking a toll on everybody’s data.

Canva is the New Printing Press

Remember when people carried envelope invites like national treasure?

Wedding invites were such a big deal — thick paper, gold embossing, envelope like love letters.

Now, all the couple have to do is design an e-flyer on Canva, add emoji, and boom — invite lands in your DMs.

Even burial ceremonies now have Google Calendar invites.

Instagram is the Real Red Carpet

Technology demands excellence from event organizers.

Knowing once the reception starts, all sorts of phones and ring lights will appear from nowhere like a police checkpoint.

Now, event planners don’t just hire caterers, they hire “content creators.”

Someone’s job is literally to record how your jollof rice looks in slow motion for Instagram reels.

And if your outfit doesn’t make it to IG stories, did you really attend?

Drones Have Replaced Uncle With Ladder

Back in the day, there was always one videographer at every event climbing ladders with camcorder, sweating profusely like NEPA staff.

Now? Drones just fly in, giving aerial shots like CNN.

The only problem is if the drone battery dies mid-reception, it might land inside the cooler of egusi soup.

It’s part of the blessing of technology.

Digital Event Registration

Gone are the days where people gate crash parties anyhow or even queue to purchase tickets at event venues.

Now, you can register for weddings like you’re attending TED Talk.

Hosting events registration on platforms like Fusion is the dream of every event planner as Fusion makes life easier for event organizers and attendees alike.

It lets organizers sell tickets and track attendees at very little cost (4%) and attendees can easily register to attend using their devices.

Organizers can also receive their money from ticket sales within 24 hours. Need I say more?

If you’ve got an event to plan, host your registration and ticket sales on Fusion for a seamless experience and thank me later.

From saving everyone’s time and resources to facilitating easier data collection for organizers and a personalized attendee experience, technology has significantly impacted event planning in Nigeria, and there’s no going back.
