Jane: The Weekend Minister

Hi, my name is Jane, and my friends call me “Weekend Minister of Enjoyment.” Every Friday and Saturday evening, while others are settling in with Netflix, I’m getting dressed, fully hyped, and ready to explore the next event.

It’s funny how I was an Introvert who barely went out, but my girls started pulling me out of my shell. It started small, just me and my girls going out once a month but now, once it’s Friday, my body automatically starts vibrating by 5 p.m. like it has an in-built party alarm.

Monday through Thursday is usually office wahala with deadlines, annoying colleagues, and at the end of each day, Lagos traffic. So it felt like the perfect escape from stress, until the day a stranger wanted to beat me and my friends up.

That day we were in the club partying oo! When out of nowhere, this guy came and told my friends and me to leave the table we had made reservations for. 

We stopped paying attention to him and kept on singing and vibing because he wasn’t listening to the staff telling him the table was reserved for us. The next thing he did was to hit me. I gave him a dirty slap back. 

That was when all hell broke loose. At the end of the night, he broke a bottle on one of my friend’s head and wanted to fight me. The good thing was that the staff didn’t let him go until the police picked him up.

From that day, I’ve reverted back to being an introvert. Well, maybe until the slap he gave me and my babe’s head fully heals. Lol 

Mathew: The Everyday Groover

My name is Mathew, and I live by one code: “Ita la wa,” meaning “we are outside”. Anytime, any day, as far as I’m in the mood, and trust me when it comes to events and parties, I’m always in the mood.

While most people limit their groove to weekends, for me? I’m outside Monday to Sunday. People think I’m joking until they follow me for one week. 

Monday night? Chill lounging. Tuesday? I’m outside for the cocktails. Wednesday? Comedy shows. Thursday? Pre-weekend grooves. Friday to Sunday? You already know it’s full blast. Lagos is like an endless line-up of cool events, and I’m here for everything.

I don’t just party for vibes. I party for life itself. Meeting new people, vibing with strangers, it gives me a rush. And let me tell you, sometimes this lifestyle rewards me.

People always ask: “But Mathew, don’t you get worried about money?” My honest answer? “Chop life before Life chop you.” Rent will sort itself. Bills will find a way. But the memories? The stories? And the random new friends? Those are priceless. 

So yes, maybe my wallet is crying, but I don’t care. Life is too short not to party, and I never run out of cool parties to attend on Fusion, so I refuse to waste it.

Favour: The Special Guest

Hi, I’m Favour. I usually don’t step out unless I’m invited. My nightlife is strictly “by invitation only.” Some people say I’m forming hard to get, but honestly, I just like peace. If someone really wants me at their party, they’ll ask. If I can attend, I will, but if I can’t, I won’t.

Let me gist you, not every invite has been sweet. There was one house party I attended that almost made me retire from nightlife forever. Everything started well, good music, small chops, everyone was mingling. 

Then suddenly, two guys started fighting. Next thing, bottles were flying everywhere,  turns out it was a cult clash. I just kept praying, “God, don’t let my mother hear about this one.” I left that night, swearing never to go out again.

But life has a way of humbling you. Another time, I got invited to a networking-style event at a fancy lounge. I didn’t even want to go at first, but I forced myself. Best decision ever. 

That night, I met someone who later became a mentor. That connection ended up opening doors for me. I landed a job opportunity I never thought I’d get, just because I showed up. Imagine going to vibe and ending up with career blessings.

That’s why I say my party life is fifty-fifty. Sometimes it’s drama, sometimes it’s destiny. I may not be outside every night, but when I do step out, stories are guaranteed. Whether it’s near-trouble or unexpected blessings, I always come back home with gist.
