Nigerian social media space is not for the fainthearted but we all love it and we’re not having it any other way!
November 2024 brought its own share of drama, laughs, and thought-provoking moments to the scene; from newly weds that want to shove it down our throats that their marriage is great, to our social media “Batman” doing his things, to celebrity weddings, to album releases, to fans stanning their faves…there’s a lot to go round…
And I’m here to keep you updated with the most captivating stories that kept Nigerians scrolling and commenting through November:
Chidinma Adetshina: The Runner-Up Who Stole The Show
Remember the Nigerian vs South African social media saga I told you about? Well, the lady dusted herself up and went ahead to become the first runner up, Miss Universe 2024.
It was a win for Nigeria and Nigerians didn’t take it lightly on social media. Deflecting any attempt from South Africans to belittle the win or claim it as a win for Africa with sharp witted comments.
The way other beauty pageants ran over to hug and celebrate her after the announcement was made, you’d have thought she won the “Miss Universe.”
The Battle of Hits
After a few weeks of some serious gbas gbos (that we can safely refer to as a publicity stunt), Wizkid dropped a full album, titled Morayo, while Davido teased us with a new single. Cue the fanbase wars.
Wizkid FC called it “timeless music,” while 30 BG stans declared, “It’s not about quantity, but quality.” Twitter spaces were lit, memes were everywhere, and no one could agree on who won the month.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy’s fans sat in the corner, muttering, “When e reach Grammy talk, na only one person dem dey find.”

Trump’s Presidency
While you might argue that this is foreign gist, Nigerians really carried this matter on their head. Who would have thought Nigerians would have this much interest in Trump’s political comeback?
From the pulpit to the streets, all sorts of prophecies, projections and analysis were flying around as to who the winner of the Presidential election will be.
Some even went as far as creating a campaign song in favor of Trump and were offering “special prayers” for his success—as if we don’t have our own pressing issues..
Let’s not talk about how respected citizens were trying to prove their projections were accurate after Trump won the election, it was pure drama!
Guinness World Record For National Blackouts
The November 5 national grid collapse sparked another blackout and the usual outcry. But some Nigerians took it further on social media, sarcastically announcing that Nigeria had been awarded a Guinness World Record for the longest streak of national blackouts.
At least we’ve perfected the art of laughing through the chaos.
Okonjo-Iweala Sole Candidate for WTO’s Top Job
The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerged as the sole candidate for the position in next year’s election, once again making Nigeria and Nigerians proud.

Bob Risky and Bad PR
After several failed escape plans, to being hunted down like a rat after evading summons for further investigation by the EFCC, the “mummy of Lagos” didn’t have it any easier in November.
Another “accuser” has shown up claiming to have more indicting receipts. He claims the mummy of Lagos took a loan from him and isn’t forthcoming with the refund.
The mummy of Lagos is unbothered as she has been able to successfully japa from the country and claims she is currently having a good time with Hollywood stars.
Davido vs Nigerian Elites
While on a podcast, Davido made a comment about how the Nigerian economy is currently in shambles and has since been getting serious heat about his comment on the podcast from the elites.
Critics argued that while that might be the actual state of things, his role as an ambassador was to promote the good and skip the bad. We’re waiting to see if he’ll retract the statement or not.
Egungun and the Video Call Wahala
The recently married content creator, popularly known as Egungun, became the centre of attention on social media as a compromising video of him and a lady who wasn’t his wife, went viral.
Egungun himself has yet to comment, but Twitter comedians had a field day with captions like, “Egungun, be careful indeed.”
November 2024 proved yet again that Nigerian social media is the place where humor meets reality. Whether it’s celebrating achievements, dissecting scandals, or dragging PHCN for the umpteenth time, one thing is certain—there’s never a dull moment.
Detty December is here, so gear up for even more drama, laughter, and viral moments. Join me on Fusion’s ”Daily News” community and stay updated with fresh gist.
