It’s almost 2025, and if you’re still dragging unnecessary baggage (aka those people) into the new year, we need to talk.

Life is too short to be explaining basic things to people who should know better. So grab your scissors (figuratively, of course) and let’s snip away the drama.

Here are five reasons to cut people off before 2025.

1. They Still Owe You Money from 2017

How many times will you send “Happy New Month” messages hoping they’ll remember your money? If they haven’t paid back in 6 years, newsflash: they’re never paying. Block them, delete their number, and use that energy to manifest better friends who will give you money instead of borrowing yours (and never paying back).

2. They Use Your Glow-Up for Clout

You got the job, the car, or the bae, and suddenly, they’re introducing you as “My very good friend, insert-your-name-here.” When was the last time they checked on you for anything other than taking selfies at your wins? Snip-snip. Let them find another source of “we rise by lifting others” energy.

3. They’re More Toxic Than the Lagos Air

If they suck the joy out of the room, always have “one thing” to say about your choices, or use passive-aggressive “it’s just my opinion” lines to bring you down, why are they still in your life? You don’t need that kind of pollution going into 2025. Let them go.

4. They Always Bring Negative Vibes

Every time you try to make a move, they have “small advice” about how “it’s not realistic” or “people like us can’t do that.” Newsflash: people like YOU can do anything, and people like THEM can stay behind. Surround yourself with those who clap when you win, not those who whisper “e sure for you?”

5. They Never Contribute to the Bill

You’re tired of footing the “split the bill” moments while they conveniently “forget wallet for house.” If they can’t budget for their own fun, you shouldn’t be budgeting for their seat at your table. Let’s all find friends who Zelle their share before dessert lands.

See ehn, 2025 is your year to shine, unburdened and unapologetically. It’s not easy to cut people off and it isn’t about being harsh. It’s about protecting your energy and making room for those who truly deserve a seat at your table. So sharpen those scissors and start trimming!

And hey, if someone just popped into your mind while reading this… you know what to do. Happy New Year in advance! 🥂
