A core memory for some of us in the Lion King movie was when Mufasa fell to his death. That scene was “enough to make a grown man cry.” 

We knew how Simba grew up to become king in the first movie. We got the backstory of Pumba and Timon in Lion King 1 1⁄2, but we didn’t know anything about Mufasa’s past. That’s about to change with the release of ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’. Keep reading to know when it will be released in theaters.

Mufasa: The Lion King

Mufasa: The Lion King is a brand-new film that explores the Mufasa’s rise to power. Narrated by Rafiki, the story is told through flashbacks, introducing Mufasa as a young, orphaned cub who finds friendship and protection with Taka, a future king. 

Joined by a misfit group of friends, Mufasa embarks on an epic journey to claim his destiny, all while facing dangerous foes. Directed by Barry Jenkins and featuring original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Mufasa: The Lion King” roars into theaters (see what I did there?😉) on December 20, 2024.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

This holiday season, Sonic the Hedgehog is back, reunited with Knuckles and Tails to face off against a powerful new villain: Shadow. This mysterious villain boasts unprecedented abilities, forcing Team Sonic to seek an unlikely alliance to save the planet. 

Director Jeff Fowler returns with an all-star cast, including Keanu Reeves who joins the franchise as the voice of Shadow. Get ready for the ultimate Sonic adventure, showing in cinemas on December 20.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

Set 183 years before the original trilogy, this film reveals the fate of the legendary King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and his noble House. When Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunlending lord, seeks revenge for his father’s death, Helm and his people must make a brave last stand at the ancient fortress of the Hornburg, later known as Helm’s Deep. 

As the situation grows more desperate, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must rise to lead the resistance against their deadly enemy and save her people from destruction. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, it is set to be released on December 13, 2024.

Kraven the Hunter

Kraven the Hunter is an upcoming superhero film that tells the story of Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven, a skilled big-game hunter. The movie explores Kraven’s complex relationship with his father, which sets him on a path of vengeance and drives him to become the greatest hunter.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as Kraven, alongside Ariana DeBose as Calypso Ezili, a voodoo priestess and Kraven’s love interest. The film also features Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov, aka Chameleon, Kraven’s estranged half-brother.

Directed by J.C. Chandor, “Kraven the Hunter” promises to be an action-packed adventure that delves into the complexities of Kraven’s character. The film is scheduled to be released on December 13, 2024.

Nosferatu

In this classic horror film, Thomas Hutter visits Count Orlok’s castle in the mountains. But Orlok has a dark plan: he wants to move near Hutter’s home and harm his wife, Ellen. As Hutter tries to escape, Orlok’s servant prepares for his master’s arrival, leading to a terrifying showdown. Directed by Robert Eggers, Nosferatu is set to be released on December 25.
